22 BLAGDEN ALLEY NW
The highly anticipated restaurant from Chef Jeremiah Langhorne finally made its debut at the end of last year. Its mid-Atlantic cuisine is seasonal, and guaranteed to be fresh, perfectly seasoned, and comforting. The focal point of the restaurant is the 10-foot hearth and open kitchen space that allows you to dine in awe of the masterminds behind the dishes. Try the classic chicken and biscuits and the Gentlemen’s Bet for a strong bourbon cocktail with blackberry preserves.

If you’re looking for something spicy and foreign, head to the new pop-up restaurant on Georgia Avenue by Chef Alex Mccoy. After spending a considerable amount of time in Northern Thailand, McCoy decided to bring the flavors and spices back to the US. Alfie’s conjures up images of a rustic, eclectic bar in a small exotic village. McCoy’s aim is to create new dishes daily and make it a place for camaraderie. We love the coconut curry with beef rib, and the killer cocktails they serve. The pop-up is open now until the permanent location opens on Upshur street this spring.

This tiny restaurant in Columbia Heights serves up Filipino comfort food. The mom and pop-style space only has 24 seats and doesn’t take reservations so there is always a line. The food draws on the classic tastes of the Philippines— fresh, citrusy and spicy. Try the kinilaw, a yellowfin tuna ceviche with avocado puree, or inihaw na liempo, pork belly lettuce wraps. Also, the drinks put a modern twist on some of our favorites. Try the Manila Sling, a cocktail with sherry and acai grenadine.

Tucked away on a little alley at the corner of Wisconsin and M streets, The Sovereign is the newest hotspot in the Georgetown area. This Belgian bistro serves traditional beers, mussels and ﬂammekuchens—a crispy flatbread with toppings. There’s over 50 beers on tap and 350 bottles for any true beer aficionado. We love the dimly lit dining room with black and copper decor, making it a perfect spot for date night.
