Alliance Francaise de Washington’s annual French Festival is coming up soon. Celebrate France’s independence day with a variety of events with 18th century French themes, including the Bastille Day French Festival, held on Saturday, July 12 at The Hillwood Estate.
The all-day event includes plenty of entertainment, live music, performances, art, and family-friendly games. Check out the court dances performed by the New York Baroque Dance Company, delight in the hijinks by the mimes of Happenstance Theater, and make merry with Madame ToutDeSuite, a fictional noblewoman of Marie Antoinette’s court.
In addition to festival activities, enjoy the impressive collection of French art on display at The Hillwood Estate, once owned by American businesswoman and Francophile Marjorie Merriweather Post, owner of the cereal company that would later become General Foods. Lastly, don’t forget to take home a little bit of France from the unique selection of French gifts from the museum shop.
Tickets to the event are $18, with special discounts for seniors, students, and children. The event is free for children under 6. To purchase tickets, visit the Alliance Francaise de Washington website.
